Everything that is about hockey

It is the start of the hockey season, and I am super excited. I am playing for the Albany Jr. River Rats AAA. It is awesome. Also, my favorite team, the Bruins, are off to a great start, and if they play like how they have been for the rest of the season, I think we can take home the cup. It has been a long time since the B’s won the cup, over 30 years. But, this year, we will take home the cup, I can feel it.

The Chicago Black-hawks (not a surprise) and the Philadelphia  Flyer’s (big surprise) are both in the Stanley Cup Finals. I am Routing  for the black-hawks for two reasons. The first one is I think they have a better chance of winning and the second one is the Flyer’s beat my favorite team the bruins pretty early in the playoffs. I also think the Black-hawks have a better chance of winning because there team works pretty well together and they have two stars, Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. Both incredible with the puck. But the Flyer’s still have a chance because they are physical, and the might surprise the black-hawks with all the big hitting. I think that is the one area that the Black-hawks will have to get used to while playing the Flyer’s.

Synthetic ice is basically fake ice. It is a synthetic material that you can glide on with skates, but it is a little slower. The skates cannot go as fast on it because ice skates were made for ICE, and, when the fake ice gets dirt on it, it can get caught in your blade and it makes it a lot slower for you. Also if you try and make a really sharp turn, your skates dig really far into the synthetic material and slows you down so fast you fall flat on your face. But it is also Eco friendly and inexpensive. So if you ever are considering getting it, it would be a good way to stay in shape for the hockey season and it is very fun. So if you are getting synthetic ice, have fun with it.

Last week, I tried out for another AAA hockey team. The tryouts were Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. This is how the tryouts worked,
You would go to the tryouts Monday, and after the tryouts they would cut the kids who they thought were not good enough, then if you did not get cut you would go back Tuesday, and you would have to make the cut again. Then, you would go back Thursday, and they would announce the team after the third tryout.

They were really fun and hard at the same time. I cannot wait until I get to play with them next year, ( if my parents let me).

But the tryouts were much different then the Vermont state team. The river Rats tryout was a lot of scrimmaging and less skating and puck skills. But they were both tryouts.

So as you can see from this video, Marc Savard got hit to the head and it was from behind. I think Matt Cooke should of gotten suspended for this dirty hit, but he didn’t. And now it is going to cost the Bruins in the playoffs because Marc Savard was one of the Bruins best offensive players. But, they have been playing really well so far in the playoffs so I think we have a chance to make to the next round.

As most of you know, the NHL regular season is coming to a end. But the playoffs are just about to start.

My Favorite team, the Boston Bruins, are on the bubble of making the playoffs. Currently they are in 6th, with 87 points, but the Canadians are in 7th with 87 points too. Also, Philadelphia is in 8th and they have 86 points. So it is all so close. I think the Bruins have to win one more game to make it into the playoffs. They play Carolina and Washington as there last two games. I think there best bet is to beat Carolina because Washington is the best team in the NHL. They play Carolina on April 10th, at One ‘clock in the afternoon.

If they can play well against Carolina, I think they can make the playoffs. Let us hope.

This weekend I am traveling with my state hockey team to the Yankee Conference Festival. The Festival has five teams in it from five different states in New England. I can’t wait, it is going to be a blast to play at this high of level of hockey and it is going to be fun to hang out with my friends. The teams are Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maine, and Rhode Island.

    The festival is in Manchester NH. But the hotel we got is 30 min. away from the rink so it is going to be a bit of a drive to the rink, but not as bad of a drive for the practices for the state team. For me, they were two hours away.  A long drive but it is definetly worth it. I love playing hockey. But I don’t think my parents like driving two hours in the car.

My teams first game is against NH. at 8:00 Friday morning. Our second game is 8:00 Saturday morning against Connecticut. My third game is Saturday afternoon at 4:00 against Rhode Island. Then our final game is Sunday morning At 8:00.  So we are going to have to get up really early Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but that doesn’t matter, because it still going to be fun.

A week ago today,  I woke up early to look on the computer to see if I made the all star hockey team I tried out for. I woke up at about 6 am  to look. I was very excited. My dad turned on the computer and got on the website to check. By then I was extremely nervous because I really wanted to make it. As my dad pulled up the page I turned away because I couldn’t look. But there was no need for that because my dad jumped up from his chair and started yelling  “YOU MADE IT, YOU MADE IT, I CAN’T BELIEVE IT, YOU REALLY MADE IT.” I was so excited. I also felt so honored to be named on the hockey team. Then I couldn’t believe, and I still can’t believe. It is just such an honor.

The right hockey stick is very hard to choose. You might want a wooden stick so you can feel the puck better on your blade, or you could get a composite stick that is lighter and you have a faster shot with them because they flex. And there are different kinds of composite and wooden sticks. Easton makes a good quality stick, and Bauer makes a good stick, Bauer is probably most popular for there great sticks. But the best stick I have ever used in my whole entire life is the Bauer Supreme one95. I think this stick is the best stick I have ever used is because it is light, but you can also feel the puck on the blade of you stick better than most other composite sticks. I also like the grip on the one95. Where you keep your hand to shoot, it has the tactile grip that your hands sticks to pretty well, without using stick um. So the Bauer Supreme one95 is a all around great stick and I suggest to try it out if you are looking for a new hockey stick.

Last year I made a double A team. It was basically a Tournament team. We only had three practices with each other before we had our first tournament. We did not do that well in our first couple of tournaments but the last tournament we played really well and came in fourth. My friend who made the triple A team won that tournament. We would of gone to the finals against his team but we lost a game against the Junior Islanders. We did not play well because we had a game before that which we played really hard in. So we were all tired for that game. It was still fun though.
